Who Are You Looking At?

‘What am I looking at?’….. ‘A single line on a flat ground? ‘A colour on a flat ground?- A pigmented line between two areas of graphite surface? A line of colour viewed through a parallel sided gap between two graphite covered surfaces? Space, distance, contrast, connotation? The line is vertical? Is the line vertical? Are its edges parallel to the edges of the grey?
The colour can float free in space behind the graphite. Or is the colour compressed, opressed in its narrow confine ‘between the lines?’ Is the coloured line an impostor? There is something defiant in the presence of the coloured line?
Questions that might all point to something objectively ‘true’. Must there be only one set of relationships, unequivocal, that correspond to what is real , whilst all else is speculative?
A collection of alternative facts?
How to read it?
How to experience it?
